Solar Cables

Solar Cables are specially designed interconnection cables used in photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems. These cables connect solar panels, inverters, combiner boxes, and other electrical components within a solar installation.

TWI Wires & Cables manufactures and exports high-performance Solar Cables engineered for UV resistance, weather durability, and long-term outdoor performance. Our solar cables are suitable for rooftop and ground-mounted solar power plants across Africa, the Middle East, and international markets.

Construction of the Cable

Conductors

It is the current carrying component of the cable.

Material:

  • Flexible Class 5 Tinned Annealed Copper as per IEC 60228

Tinned copper ensures enhanced corrosion resistance and long-term conductivity in outdoor and humid environments.

Insulation

The rated voltage level of the cable depends on the dielectric strength and insulation thickness.

Material:

  • Cross Linked Polyolefin (XLPO) as per BS EN 50618:2014
  • Rated for 1.5 kV DC systems

XLPO insulation provides excellent thermal endurance, UV resistance, and high dielectric strength.

Outer Sheath

Protective outer covering of the cable.

Material:

  • Cross Linked Polyolefin (XLPO) as per BS EN 50618:2014

Colour of Outersheath Jacket:
Black (Other colours available on request)

The sheath ensures resistance against UV radiation, ozone, abrasion, and extreme weather conditions.

Characteristics

Operating Temperature:
-40°C to +120°C

Short Circuit Rating:
Calculated based on normal maximum operating conductor temperature of 120°C prior to short circuit and maximum conductor temperature of 250°C after short circuit.

Voltage Rating:
1.5 kV DC

Solar cables are designed for long-term outdoor exposure and high-performance DC transmission in photovoltaic systems.

Standards

Solar Cables are manufactured in accordance with:

  • BS EN 50618:2014
  • TUV 2 PFG 1169/08
  • IEC 60228

These standards ensure safety, reliability, and international acceptance.

Application

Solar Cables are used in:

  • Photovoltaic (PV) power plants
  • Rooftop solar systems
  • Ground-mounted solar farms
  • Solar panel to inverter connections
  • DC string connections
  • Renewable energy installations

Suitable for use with Class II equipment as per BS EN 50618:2014.
